How to create beautiful necklines..
When you decide on the type of neckline for your workpiece, consider the shape of your face. V necks for example, elongates the figure and makes you look slimmer. A closed neck shortens the neck and not so flattering for those with short necks. A square neckline emphasizes broad shoulders. A raised neckline, for example a turtle neck, is suited for those with long necks.
It is recommended to test first how the new neckline will suit your figure. Cut a scrap fabric with the neckline pattern shape and put it on your front. If it does not suit you well, alter the shape.
Avoid using plunging necklines on the front and back of your garment because they rarely will stay in place. With these necklines, it is advisable to do some fitting so it will lay in place nicely following the contours of your figure. Adjust the pattern by putting small darts before cutting the fabric.
V- necks can be made shallow so it does not become too revealing. It will also look flattering.
In the absence of a zipper or button closure, it is best to keep the neckline slightly bigger than the circumference of your head except when the fabric is stretchable.
Check the fit from the shoulders before finishing the neckline and make sure it lays smoothly over the shoulders without a bump.
